I am doing everything I can to help Lily enjoy tummy time, including making this DIY baby gym. She has really strong legs and can walk around in her walker, stand up with hardly any help, and jump up and down in her bouncer for hours! However, when it comes to being on her tummy and back- she isn’t what one would call a “happy camper.”
Earlier, I made this play mat (tutorial on blog!) and I finally got around to making this gym. Special thanks to my husband and neighbor, Dietrich. They built the wooden structure for me.. they did such a great job! It looks just like the tutorial.
Here is what you will need to make the gym:
Around 1 1/2 yards of fabric scraps for making tassels
embroidery thread, ribbon scraps
wooden baby gym, tutorial: (here)
For fabric tassels:
Step 1: Cut 1″ strips out of varying length fabrics.
Step 2: Gather 5 strips that are the same length and fold them in half. Tie a piece of fabric about 1″ down your folded strips.
For yarn tassels:
Step 1: Wrap yarn around a book (whatever length you want your tassel to be) around 20X.
Step 2: Slide the yarn off the book and tie a piece of string at the very top of the circle ( bonding all the yarn together).
Step 3: Cut the circle in half, by cutting them bottom of the circle.
Step 4: Tie a piece of yarn about 1″ down from the top of your circle, where you tied your first strip of yarn.
I used embroidery thread and some ribbon scraps to attach the tassels to the dowel. I tied triple knots, just to make sure Lily couldn’t pull them off!
We are up to 15 min of content, happy floor time! I also bought a mirror and it has helped a lot. She loves to look at her own cute little face :)
